Queensland heritage plates are original registration plates issued before the introduction of the State's modern alpha-numeric registration system in 1955. Each plate represents a genuine piece of Queensland's motoring history and forms part of a permanently finite collection.
Can anyone purchase a heritage plate?
Yes. Heritage plates can be privately bought and sold, subject to Queensland Government transfer requirements and eligibility.
Are all heritage plates the same?
No.

Eligible Queensland heritage registrations can generally be transferred and registered for road use in accordance with Queensland Government regulations.
Can heritage plates be transferred to another person?
Yes.
Ownership can generally be transferred through the appropriate Queensland Government transfer process.
Can heritage plates be inherited?
Yes.
Many heritage registrations remain within families for generations and can be transferred through estate administration.
Can I keep my heritage plate if I sell my vehicle?

The registration and the physical plate can generally be retained and transferred to another eligible vehicle, subject to Queensland Government requirements.
Why are original Q-series plates so significant?
The original Q-series marked the beginning of Queensland's unified statewide registration system in 1921.
No further original Q-series registrations have been issued since the series concluded in 1955, making every surviving plate a finite part of Queensland's history.
